Whether you're a local or just visiting, Uncle Wang's Alley promises a memorable dining experience that’s both satisfying and full of surprises.

The first thing that strikes you when you step inside Uncle Wang's Alley is the warm, rustic feel. The inviting space instantly makes you feel at home. The dim lighting, wooden tables, and traditional decor give the place an old-world charm, perfect for those intimate dinners or casual hangouts with friends. It's the kind of spot where you can comfortably spend hours chatting while enjoying great food, which is exactly what makes it a standout in Bloomington.

When it comes to the menu, Uncle Wang's Alley doesn't disappoint. You’ll find a wide range of options that cater to different tastes, from savory dumplings to flavorful stir-fries. One thing to note is their dedication to using fresh, locally sourced ingredients. It’s clear that the chefs here take great pride in preparing each dish with care and attention. A popular favorite is their signature hand-pulled noodles, which are made fresh daily and come in a variety of savory broths, from spicy to mild.

For those who enjoy a bit of heat, the Szechuan-style dishes are a must-try. The hot and numbing chicken, with its perfect balance of chili peppers and aromatic spices, is a standout on the menu. And if you prefer something on the lighter side, their vegetable stir-fry options are just as flavorful, loaded with crisp vegetables and delicate sauces that bring out the natural sweetness of the ingredients.

If you’re new to Uncle Wang's Alley, it’s highly recommended that you start with their dumplings. These delicate pockets of dough filled with juicy meat and flavorful herbs are the epitome of comfort food. They’re pan-fried to perfection, creating a crispy, golden exterior that gives way to a tender, savory filling inside. Whether you dip them in soy sauce or eat them on their own, these dumplings never fail to impress.

The drink menu is equally impressive, offering a nice selection of wines, beers, and specialty cocktails. One of their more unique offerings is the house-made ginger ale, which pairs perfectly with many of the dishes. It’s refreshing, slightly spicy, and provides a nice contrast to the bold flavors of the food.

What makes Uncle Wang’s Alley particularly noteworthy is its commitment to providing an authentic and memorable dining experience. The staff is friendly and attentive, always ready to guide you through the menu or suggest a drink pairing. Whether you're a frequent visitor or a first-time guest, you’ll feel like part of the family.

Another great aspect of Uncle Wang’s Alley is its affordability. For the quality of food and the generous portions, you’ll find that the prices are quite reasonable. It's a place where you can indulge in a filling meal without breaking the bank, which only adds to its appeal as a local favorite.

Beyond the food, there’s a true sense of community that pervades the space. You’ll often see regulars chatting with the staff like old friends, which gives the place a hometown feel that many restaurants lack. It’s this sense of familiarity, combined with the exceptional food, that makes Uncle Wang's Alley such a special spot in Bloomington.

  • This place is my favorite restaurant in Bloomington! I’m so glad I found it, it’s an authentic Chinese spot that also has great American Chinese options. Their dry pots are incredible. I’ve already been back three times in two weeks

  • I had a lovely egg drop soup with vegetable Spring rolls. They have a wonderful Peking Duck here. It's enough for 4 people. They also used the bones to make a Duck soup, Enough to feed a family. It was very Tasty and a cold windy day. This restaurant had just opened a month from what I understood from my server. My server was a wonderful lady from China. She said one of the reasons she chose to work for Uncle Wang's Alley was they had such Peking Duck and it reminded her of home. The restaurant is located on East 3rd street right across from the Turkish Restaurant to the South. There is parking on the East Side of the restaurant. There is steps down into the restaurant. It was lovely to have a sit down Chinese restaurant With real Chinese dishes. If you're looking for a nice Dining experience, I recommend this restaurant.

  • The food quality here is incredible and high-end. It might be the best in Bloomington. We ordered the Taiwanese Three Cup Chicken (I highly recommend!), Ma Po Tofu, Hot and Sour soup, and Crab Rangoons. Everything was excellent and beautifully presented. Even the fried wontons served with the soup were freshly fried. The restaurant atmosphere is simple and undecorated, so you can tell they focus on the food.

  • We visited this place with four people and ordered: Garlic Pork Slices (not highly recommended), Spicy Hot Pot (Mao Xue Wang), and Golden Soup Spicy Beef. The total was around $20 per person after tax. We went there on a weekend at noon, and it wasn’t very crowded. Overall, this is one of the better Chinese restaurants in Indiana. The water had a pretty strong tap-water taste even with lemon added. The Mao Xue Wang (medium spicy) had relatively few ingredients — only three pieces of pork intestine and no beef tripe. There were more fish slices, but you can add ingredients from the “mala xiang guo” section (like tofu skin, etc.) for an extra charge. The Garlic Pork Slices were served in a hanging style, a bit different from other places, and they were decent. The Golden Soup Spicy Beef was flavorful and went really well with rice. The owner was very friendly and welcoming, and even offered us a complimentary dessert — the brown sugar glutinous rice cake was delicious. Big thumbs up!

  • BEST PLACE FOR CHINESE IN BLOOMINGTON!!! The 台式三杯鸡 (Three Cups Chicken) is one of my family’s favorites, along with the cumin lamb. Also don’t sleep on the veggies! The vegetables are honestly well worth the price, especially the 四季豆 (Four Seasons French Beans) and the bok choy. Also they have complimentary egg drop soup and tea!

  • Uncle Wang’s Alley is one of the best Chinese restaurants I have ever been to. The food is fresh and authentic, each dish had its own flavor. We got eight different meals to try. The spicy lamb ribs and crispy pork were excellent. The duck was also cooked perfectly. Everything was seasoned well, some dishes were spicy, but not too spicy if you don’t eat the peppers. The place was very busy which on a Friday night which is great to see. They just opened up under new management, I definitely recommend eating here if you want authentic Chinese cuisine.
